La candidata a Reina de Quito 2018 – 2019, María Emilia Realpe, de 20 años, no se imaginó ser parte de este certamen para participar por la corona quiteña. Ella dice que siempre ha sido un poco introvertida pero que su hermana la impulsó para cumplir este sueño.

Estaba dedicada 100% a sus estudios de Publicidad en la Universidad de Las Américas y confiesa que ni siquiera se maquillaba como lo hace ahora. «Siempre he sido sencilla. El rímel era lo único que usaba. Me gusta salir a bailar, conocer gente, en fin estar con amigos y amigas», dice.
Su familia estaba sorprendida cuando dio la noticia, especialmente su papá, quien no imaginaba que ella con su personalidad quería ser parte de esto. Sus hermanas y su mamá le han apoyado en este reto y le ayudan a escoger sus outfits.
Sin embargo, María Emilia dice que se siente muy capaz para hacer muchas cosas por la ciudad.
Además de potenciar los proyectos de Patronato Municipal San José, algo que siempre le llamó la atención es la erradicación del trabajo infantil en las calles.
«Me siento muy mal cuando veo niños en las calles trabajando. Creo que ellos necesitan estudiar y jugar. Las demás responsabilidades son para cuando van creciendo y alcanzan la mayoría de edad pero es algo que hay que hacer entender a sus padres», acota.
Vive en el barrio de La Rumiñahui y destaca que es un lugar muy acogedor, especialmente porque hay un sinnúmero de locales para degustar la gastronomía nacional.
Entre sus sueños está constituir su propia agencia de publicidad.
